Serenity One Yacht

Cruising and Dining in Cape Town

Cruising and Dining in Cape Town is one of the best ways to enjoy The Mother City.

I typically get very green at the mere thought of any nautical adventure. Waterfront Charters enticed me with an invitation to their cruise and dine experience, how could I say no?

Simply pop that motion sickness tab and away we go!

We departed the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront at 6.30pm aboard the Serenity One Yacht.

Boats docked in the harbour

The Clocktower at the Waterfront

Thank goodness for calm seas and balmy summer nights. Perched right in front of the yacht we eagerly soaked up the sun’s rays like mermaids catching a tan. Heels off, hair down, glass of bubbly firmly in hand we set sail from the harbour.

Those Summer Nights

Often one can catches glimpses of dolphins, but not today. Today we admire the shore from our vessel and the most amazing sunset.

Dusty Rose skies

From baby blues to dusty rose exploding into fiery orange melting into darkness. The Mother City’s skies sure know how to put on a show.

As the stars lit up the sky we returned to port, about an hour and a half later.

With grateful hearts and hungry bellies off we trotted to The Greek Fisherman for some delicious Greek fare.

It’s all Greek to me

In keeping with our maritime theme, we opted to dine at The Greek Fisherman. Phil and Anello, the managers, warmly greeted us and seated us in a prime spot outside in full view of our majestic Table Mountain.

This restaurant used to be on the lower level of V&A Waterfront but has now moved to the perfect spot on the upper deck.

Elegant Aegean Decor

Greek glyphs on the walls

Inside the Aegean decor is simple, tasteful and chic. You won’t find any dancing Zorba the Greek wallpaper. Instead, a light colour palette and Greek lettering on the walls are most appealing.

A tasty 3-course menu is included in the Cruise and Dine package. One can select from a variety of options for your starters and mains.

Being my friend’s birthday, bubbly and oysters were in order in addition to our meal (* note this is not included in the set menu). To quote my friend: “These are the BEST oysters I’ve had! They are so BIG!”

Fresh Oysters

“These are the BEST oysters I’ve had! They are so BIG!”

Dinner is served

I opted for traditional Spanokopita starters and fresh line fish as mains.

Mains happened to be the biggest, juiciest piece of Kingklip (no bones). I’m fairly fussy when it comes to seafood, due to growing up in a fish factory. (I kid you not!) You could say that I know a thing or two about fresh fish. I hate it when a restaurant serves you defrosted fish. The kind you can taste the number of days its been lying in the deep freeze. Honestly, I have no complaints here. The Chef completely blew me away! I’m not big on shellfish. However, that tasty mussel in tomato served on the side has me rethinking that.

The sweetest of endings with a twist on an original Greek dessert. An orange baklava served with vanilla ice-cream. It was positively more-ish!
