Β Glamping Nirvana at Thali Thali Game Lodge
Somewhere between the bush and the beach, I found my glamping nirvana at Thali Thali Game Lodge.
An easy going 60-minute meander from Cape Town, just off the R27 near the sleepy town of Langebaan is where this tranquil 1,460 hectare Cape West Coast game and fynbos reserve is located.
Just far enough out of sight for the perfect weekend safari staycation and yet close enough to civilization heaven forbid if one should be in dire need of any services not available onsite.
Family owned and run, owners Amalia and Thys bought the farm back in 2013. Their warm west coast hospitality shines through their welcoming homely dΓ©cor and hearty home cooked fare.
Room with a view
The rustic chic luxury tented suite we spent the evening in, not only boasted a double bed complete with duvet and electric blanket, but an en-suite bathroom with a shower (and hot water *gasp*), a lounge with a sleeper couch, a mini kitchenette and a stoep with a braai. Every glamper’s dream come true!
This is my adult fantasy of camping. Iβm still practically sleeping in the bush, but with all my creature comforts. Yes, I do really need a duvet, hot water and a flushing toilet.
My suite is one of five at Thali Thali, along with 3 chalets and the Old Farmhouse which has 4 bedrooms. Should you be travelling with kids and you need that tv, the chalet would be a better option.
Get Your Game On
There are several activities you can experience at this game lodge, just depending on how much energy youβre willing to exert.
From slow unguided fynbos walks Β (three trail hikes that are 3.5km, 6.5km and 11km’s respectively) to the more adventurous archery and game drives, of which we tried our hand at the latter.
Both owners Amalia & Thys are archery aficionados, who share several medals between them from the World Championships.
These professionals, who were both on the South African Archery Team, have taken to teaching guests how to get their βHunger gamesβ on. Seasoned pros can enjoy a 3D rubber animal hunting course, whilst newbs like myself practise aiming for the bulls-eye. Lessons are R100 ZAR pp and you can book directly from the reception.
Take a Game Drive
A visit to a game lodge would not be complete without a game drive. After indulging my inner centaur (Iβm Saggitarius) off we went on an hour long drive to get better acquainted with our fellow residents.
Iβm happy to say that this is a non-predator reserve, so no lions only springbok, kudu, zebra, eland, black wildebeest, ostrich, emus, geese, giraffe and even a lone, dromedary camel. Thank goodness for that as there are no boundaries between our tent and the great outdoors. Iβm pretty sure I heard some creature pass by the tent in the night. At least I can be assured it was a herbivore.
Our guide was super knowledgeable and friendly, stopping multiple times to offer insight of the animals.
Did you know giraffes eat 22 out of 24hours a day? Or that their tongues are purple to protect it from the sun?
Cost: Β R200 for Adults; R100 for children
Eat , Drink , Be Merry
After a full day of excursions and exploring, enjoy a tasty home-cooked meal by the fire. There is also a bar, which doubles up as reception. The portions are generous and the service will undoubtedly keep you coming back for more.
You donβt have to be a guest staying over to enjoy the traditional South African fare, every Sunday Thali Thali has a lunch buffet. It can cost R160p/p for adults and half price for children between the ages of 5 and 12; kids younger than 5 eat for free. While all the food is included in the price, drinks are an additional cost.Β As the weekends are very popular, itβs best to book a table at least three days in advance by calling +27 (0) 82Β 372 8637 or emailing

.
The lunch starts at 12pm every Sunday and continues until 5pm.
β¦.I do
Thali Thali caters for weddings and private functions with its outside marquee that can hold up to 100 guests. As well as a multi-media projector, sound equipment and screen.
Greeted as guests but left as friends. Iβd definitely go back and take my family to enjoy their Sunday Buffet lunch.
Thank you so much to Thali Thali for inviting me to get to experience glamping nirvana at your luxe lodge! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
