Goats Do Roam: Greek Night at Goatshed
Goats do Roam is the cheeky name for Fairview’s blush Rose wine and whilst I do not drink vino, it was my dining companion’s favourite wine of the evening.
A short while back I was invited by Fairview Wine and Cheese Estate to savour a dinner and wine pairing evening. After my initial reluctance, as a tee-totaller who was afraid I wouldn’t do the evening justice, I’m not sorry I went.
During the course of the chilly winter season, Fairview’s aptly named restaurant Goatshed, where the goats do roam literally, hosted a series of themed dinners.
We attended the Caldera Greek Evening which comprised of a 4-course meal each paired with a Fairview wine.
I opted for the non-alcoholic grape juice, whilst my dinner companion tasted the wines with each course.
The warm ambience of the wood stove fireplace set the mood for a cosy inviting evening.

Hitlist
I love the Mezze! Mezze is Greek for “finger foods”. Haloumi is goats cheese, and one of my absolute favourites. When grilled or fried, it has a slightly salty taste but with the fresh tomato salsa, it was just perfect.
Now Dolmades are pickled vine leaf wrapped rice savouries. They look a bit like green spring rolls. I was pleasantly surprised as they tasted better than I had imagined. Not too sour not too sweet, a delicate infusion of Greece danced on my lips.
The best part of the meal, other than my company, of course, had to be the lamb meatballs. Plated to perfection with the pureed aubergine. This carnivorous heart lapped up every morsel of meat on her plate.
The staff were friendly, the vibe was right, what a great evening what a good night!
With the goats tucked away in their turrets and our tummies well fed, it was time to go, off to bed.
