Ideas Cartel: City to Coast
Work. Play. Stay.
Ideas Cartel – The digital nomad’s answer to the happiest place on earth…well in Cape Town at any rate. This members-only concept of coworking, connecting collaborating, and creativity is the result of the Brainchild of Schuyler Vorster. He has just added the renowned Historical Italian heritage site Casa Labia to his stable of epicurean delights.
“Built for the founders, funders and freethinkers.”

With the pandemic hitting us all harder than a TresemmΓ© ad gone wrong, we all pivoted faster than Bruce (aka Caitlyn) Jenner hanging on to any business to keep us afloat in these crazy times.
As lockdown came into effect, cleverly Vorster proved resilient by turning a few of his coworking spaces into fitness pods. These proved to be a HUGE success as all the gyms were closed. One can still book these at present if you’re keen on solo workouts. As well as offering a food delivery service.
But enough of that, I’m here to share about my amazing City to Coast experience with Ideas Cartel.
As if their ginormous virtual interactive 3D golf green screen and amphitheater, boardrooms, restaurant, and boutique hotels with rooftop bars and pools that will blow your mind away aren’t enough, they have added a few experiences for sensory overload.
City to Coast
Arriving at The Old Foundry Hotel is every industrial New Yorker’s dream. In the remains of the earliest recorded commercial foundry (1876). I admire Schuyler for retaining accents like the high vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and heavy metal and copper details scattered throughout. My only critique for us gals in heels are those killer stairs
“The Old Foundry Hotel is a true experience of old-world sophistication and contemporary elegance.”

Greeted by our gracious host Sonja and Craft Gin mixologist extraordinaire Francois from Pimville drinks. As a result, we were spoilt with a delicious cocktail before check-in and a brief tour of the hotel.
No sooner had I admired my luxe accommodations, we were swiftly transported off to the 18th-century Venetian style Casa Labia. The former residence of Count and Countess Natale Labia. This cultural site is a splendid wedding venue, home to Ideas Cartel coworking space and two idyllic dreamy accommodations overlooking the ocean on the False Bay Coastline.
La Dolce Vita
I honestly felt like I was living my La Dolce Vita in this perfectly curated opulent decadence.
Casa Labia is available for musical concerts, wedding venues, and secluded getaways. There is a fanciful restaurant serving Italian fare open from 08h30 am to 15h30 pm. I would strongly suggest, making a booking for their restaurant. Especially for their Friday Gin & Jazz session from 18h00 is highly recommended.
A wonderful day rounded off by a fabulous artsy #FirstThursday at Ideas Cartel Loop Street Boutique hotel featuring local artists was just the cherry on the top.
The full skyline of the great Mother City, reminded me once again of how I live in the best city in the world.
I just could not wait to get back to my room. Just to take full advantage of that victorian clawed bath (my dream bath) soak off the day’s adventures and drift off to my own wonderland.
