#MancrushMonday: Dean Cothill

#MancrushMonday Dean Cothill is Episode 21 in my series dedicated to showcasing some seriously inspiring men that have crossed my path. Previously on my #jaxpirational series I gave the ladies some props, it’s time the men got a shout out!

Dean is an exceptional photographer, Curator of @Cityofpe Instagram account and Faith-filled Creative Director at Father’s House Church and I so appreciate him taking time out of his busy schedule to chat with me. So without further adieu let me introduce:

Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Dean Cothill. Was born in the smallest little town, anyone who has ever driven from Johannesburg to Durban has eaten at its Wimpy, called Harrismith. Moved around a great deal and went to about 8 schools in my career. I now live in PE with my wife, 2 kids, and golden lab Lilly. I love long walks on the beach with my camera, grabbing a slow flat white and traveling.

12 February in South Africa

Where are you living now?

Port Elizabeth, South Africa

What kind of creative are you?

I love the idea of creating something out of nothing. Bringing order to some disorder.

How did you discover your calling?

Honestly. I was fired. And literally had my iPhone 4s in my hand and followed that wherever it would take me…

What do you love most about what you do?

Meeting different people with different stories.

What do you like the least about what you do?

SD Cards

Who or what has been your biggest motivators ?

Rob Bell. Craig Howes. Joel Houston. My brother Lee. Chris Burkard. Shawn Ogulu. My wife.

Have you experienced fear along the way & how did you overcome it?

Everyday to be honest. Chasing the dreams and desires in our hearts is always a little scary, but we gotta be brave and work hard

What are your greatest achievement/s?

My marriage. 2 kids. Faroe Islands twice. @cityofpe. Father’s House Creative.

Who do you thank for your success?

Wife. Family. GOD. Instagram. and not necessarily in the order 🙂

What upcoming projects do you have?

@cityofpe #supportsmall assisting small businesses in Port Elizabeth during this time. Working on a helicopter travel project with my friend Max (Don’t tell anyone). A new Christmas production under the circumstances

How are you currently coping with the #Covid19 Crisis?

Goodness me. To be honest, one day at a time. Working from home has been crazy. Taking all of who I am all the time. Dad. Husband. Creative. Job. Coffee. Team player. Team Leader.

Any words of encouragement for other male creatives out there?

Be brave enough to be kind enough, to yourself and to others.
