Introducing #MancrushMonday : Matthew Kanniah
#MancrushMonday is a FABULOUS new series dedicated to showcasing some seriously inspiring men that have crossed my path. Previously on my #jaxpirational series I gave the ladies some props, it’s time the men got a shout out!
Matthew Kanniah is Ep 19 in this series and I so appreciate him taking time out of his busy schedule to chat with me. So without further adieu let me introduce:
Tell us a bit about yourself
I was born in the Free State and grew up in Johannesburg where I continued my passion for cars and photography which later I turned into a career.
When and where were you born?
21 January 1992 in South Africa
Where are you living now?
Johannesburg
What kind of creative are you?
Motoring Journalist and Automotive and Lifestyle Photography
Name of your brand?
Heart of Motion
How did you discover your calling?
When I was unlawfully dismissed from my job with no money and no options but to try something outrageous.
What do you love most about what you do?
It never gets boring, I wake feeling fulfilled and satisfied with life and work.
What do you like the least about what you do?
Not enough time to do what I want in 24 hours.
Who or what has been your biggest motivators ?
My closest friends, mentors in the industry as well as the people I admire and look up to.
Have you experienced fear along the way & how did you overcome it?
I have. It was a matter of fighting the demons and pushing a way forward. If I stop making excuses and start making movements forward, I could fight my way out.
What are your greatest achievement/s?
Being recognised by Jeremy Clarkson, a hero of mine since day one, and the work that I do being sent and published globally.
Who do you thank for your success?
God, my friends and my closest advisors in my life. Without any, nothing would be possible.
What upcoming projects do you have?
Lots of new videos to come out and a string focus on professional original content. I don’t want to compete with others, but rather find a way to be different.
How are you currently coping with the #Covid19 Crisis?
Our industry is shut down pretty much and people and businesses like me can only function at level to be our best. I am upskilling, learning and buying time until I can continue again.
Any words of encouragement for other male creatives out there?
No is not an answer. If nobody is willing to help, find someone who will and make sure your motives and intentions are right. Nobody wants a thief or a copycat. Be true to your word and honour it, and do the best you can with any situation.
