Introducing #MancrushMonday : Ric Gazarian aka GlobalGaz
#MancrushMonday is a FABULOUS new series dedicated to showcasing some seriously inspiring men that have crossed my path. Previously on my #jaxpirational series I gave the ladies some props, it’s time the men got a shout out!
Meet Ric Gazarian aka GlobalGaz. This global nomad is on a mission to travel to all 193 UN countries and already has 140 countries, 3 published books, a Counting Countries podcast and many incredible travel videos under his belt. I so appreciate him taking time out of his busy schedule to chat with me. So without further adieu let me introduce:
Tell us a bit about yourself
On a quest to travel to every country in the world
When and where were you born?
15 January in America
Where are you living now?
Bangkok, Thailand
What kind of creative are you?
I wear a lot of different hats … blogging, podcasting, video, photography, events.
Name of your brand?
GlobalGaz
How did you discover your calling?
I was an avid traveler as I was worked full time. In 2008, I got laid off and focused more on traveling full time. I then transitioned into blogging as time marched on. I have been nomadic since 2012 as I have visited over 140 countries.
What do you love most about what you do?
I have been really fortunate to travel so much. Traveling has allowed me to explore while learning so much about the world. I have met incredible people from all corners of the globe as I travel.
What do you like the least about what you do?
Some aspects of blogging can be a bit tedious. Some of the social media and technical parts of blogging are not my favorite.
Who or what has been your biggest motivators ?
The motivation is simple … travel as much as possible and share what I have learned and seen along the way.
Have you experienced fear along the way & how did you overcome it?
Not really.
What are your greatest achievement/s?
I have been fortunate to partner with some great brands like G Adventures and Untamed Borders. Also, at some level, longevity is another sign of success. I have been creating content for over six years.
Who do you thank for your success?
The network, meaning I have met many people in the travel industry. So many of these people are supportive, helping out one way or the other. Travel content creation is not a solitary endeavor. You are part of a community. If you are starting out, go to travel conferences, reach out to people on social media, and build your own network.
What upcoming projects do you have?
I am simply hoping to be able to travel again, and reschedule some of the trips I had to cancel. If I am able to start traveling again, I will reach out to some brands to partner with them.
How are you currently coping with the #Covid19 Crisis?
Have been sheltering in place. Working on my blog, hosting a number of webinars. Hopefully soon I will be exploring some of Thailand since it is opening up for domestic tourism.
Any words of encouragement for other male creatives out there?
Follow your passion, but make sure you plan appropriately. Meaning don’t quit your “day job” until you have properly prepared your balance sheet. Treat your passion project as a side hustle until you have figured our how to monetize your creative outlet.
