Thalassic Tales aboard The Alba Fine Dining Restaurant
Sunday lunch will never be the same again…sorry mom, but it’s true…she says as she sails away aboardThe Alba Fine dining restaurant.
Recently I’ve had the most pleasant experience of dining aboard Cape Town’s very first fine dining floating restaurant called The Alba.
Now this mermaid’s sea legs are long gone. She finds herself more land-based due to her motion sickness, to avoid maritime misadventures.
However, when the invite to dine aboard this luxe vessel popped into my inbox, my FOMO far outweighed my fear and I exuberantly responded with a BIG FAT YES!
This 72-seater ceiling to floor glass-encased boat is specifically designed to be stable and endure choppy waters, so there was no chance of me getting sick.
Departing from the pierhead, Jetty T in front of MAReSOL onto the V&A Hotel, thereafter the Duncan Dock and into the Victoria & Alfred Basin after which it will return to the Marina. The Alba cruises around the V&A harbour basins for an hour or two.
It was a fantastic warm summer’s day, great to be out cruising the ocean.
We spotted a seal cavorting about in the water, whilst the majestic 8th natural wonder of the world gracefully slipped by our window.
Sumptuous Fare
The food was exquisite! A 3 course fully halaal and authentic South African menu to tantalise your taste buds.
From Salmon to Springbok, it was a difficult choice to make.
For starters, I chose the baked camembert, whilst my companion tried the Springbok Carpaccio.
Both elegantly plated and truly delicious.
Mains, as tempted as I was by that Springbok shank, it just didn’t feel right to eat red meat seaside. So we both opted for the citrus-infused sea bass with assorted roasted veggies.
The delicately infused orange notes on the tender yet firm fish hit the spot.
My favourite part of any meal has to be the dessert. Lady Luck smiled upon us, as they had recently changed the menu and instead of having to choose between the chocolate chilli truffles and the chocolate mousse, we were served BOTH.
There were assorted wines and unlimited bubbly on offer for the wine aficionados, but since neither of us drinks alcohol an unlimited supply of appletizer did the trick!
From beginning to end, my experience was superb! Thank you once again toThe Alba for such a decadent treat! Compliments to the Chef! I know I’ll be back.
I would highly recommend a dining experience aboard The Alba.
