Located in the former home of Jackal and Hide in the heart of the oh-so-trendy Kloof street, is where Cape Town’s first American style Crab Shack and BBQ joint, the hip new kid on the block, The Deckhouse can be found.
Not the usual locale for seaside fare, butย the chaps from Instaeats Cape Town: @greatgrampops, @mediamandean & @danilo_aquisto had invited me out for dinner so I reckoned it had to be good.
I was greeted very warmly at the door by the Chef Arno van Zyl and Owner Agnes Renault, and promptly seated in aย quirky boat shaped couch.
Being first to arrive, I sat back and soaked up the great chilled out vibe, whilst checking out the gorgeous view from the deck and appreciating the easyย listening 90s rockย fromย the live guitarist jammingย away.
The boys arrived just in time for the Spirit of Summer cocktail….a heavenly poison, yet much welcomed cool drink on such a balmy summer’s night.
If you want surf n turf then this is definitely the place for it! From popcorn shrimp, BBQ prawns, BBQ chicken wings, melt-in-your-mouth BBQ ribs (my fave!), Crayfish and Crabs galore!
Yes, they gave me crabs!
It’s no secret why they won the Eat Out Mercedes Benz Best Seafood Eatery in the Western Cape 2015 award ย folks, the proof is in the crabs!
They even had my other all time American favourite, pumpkin pie on the menu….though I must admit ย it was a tad spicyย for my liking.
The obligatory craft beer is also available on tap, Newlands Spring, not that I had a chance to taste any of it as @greatgrampops polished them all *wink* I think I’ll stick to the cocktails anyways, they come by the pitcher!
A great spot for lunch or dinner, open 7 days a week , 11am – 11pm.
