Urban Oasis Bayflowers Guesthouse
NestledΒ in the trendy, yet green suburbs of the Atlantic seaboard, lies this 14 bedroomed tranquil urban oasis Bayflowers Guest house.
This chic and modern home away from home located in three anchor bay, is a stone throws away from the V&A Waterfront and walking distance to the smorgasbord of eateries in greenpoint.
Origin
This (almost) century old property was lovingly restored by owners Jeanne & Michael Huellenhage when they bought it back in 2006. Where did the name come from? As per the owners: ” It was our vision to restore & develop the property in a way that was authentic to the period in which it was built, but simultaneously bring it into the 21stΒ century. The transformation commenced in 2007. We needed to attend to quite a bit of foundational work, as well as a lot of back and forth to council. It was a nightmare to try to understand the original intended architectural style. Working closely with the Heritage department from Council was a big help. In order for us to βstack upβ another storey, we had to dig out some of the foundations and create new reinforced foundations. It was during this process that we discovered a beautiful basement level, all intact, under the current lounge. There was the most beautiful, floral patterned glass stained door. Sadly the timber frame and surround was in decay, so we were not able to salvage it. Our previous Guest House named Nine Flowers. As we were laying our new routes in Three Anchor Bay, we though this extension of our new venture to be named, Bayflowers. Over several years, with construction over 5 different periods in time, the building evolved into the Guest House it is today, and our Home. “
Their passion for people, and hospitality is evident from the moment they welcome you warmly with smiles, recommendations and offers of champers π
Decor & more
I loved their minimalistic, afro-chic dΓ©cor with just a hint of German efficiency in the bedrooms. To maximise space in each bedroom, youβll find a slide out wardrobe hidden in the headboard. Such a well thought out design. In the communal area the walls are adorned by paper deer lights made by a friend of one of the employees.
Each room consists of:
- King/Queen &Β Twin Bedded options
- En-suite Bathroom
- Minibar Fridges
- Hair Dryer
- Laundry Service
- Safety Box
- Fans/Heaters
- Free WiFi
There is separate communal TV lounge and outside swimming pool with braai area. Perfect for those hot summer evenings!
Eco-chic
Bayflowers also has a strong sense of sustainability, with buckets in the shower to catch water which is repurposed for cleaning or watering plants. As well as super cute cacti plant wall hangings that hardly need watering. Not to mention their very own cacti roof garden, which I was privileged enough to catch glimpse of.
Then thereβs that viewβ¦as the sun kisses the Cape Town skyline, fiery hues light up the sky. There really is no city Iβd rather have a staycation in, then this one.
Wait there’s more
After a good nightβs rest be prepared to be treated to a full on breakfast, which not only includes a delectable continental selection including home-made yoghurt (a MUST-TRY) but you can have your eggs and eat them too π
